Doherty’s offers an after-hour key drop. If utilized, the vehicle must be left onsite and the key deposited into the locked box. Responsibility for the vehicle remains with the customer until the office opens for business the following morning.

25 years old is the minimum age to rent without restrictions or fees.

Drivers between 21 – 24 years of age are subject to a youthful driver fee depending on type of vehicle requested or specific restrictions may apply to underage renters.

Yes, Renters are to return vehicles with the same fuel level as at the onset of the rental.

The original fuel level will be noted on the Rental Agreement.

We always ask for a fuel receipt as proof of purchase on return.

In certain cases. Doherty’s accepts and welcomes customers preferring to use their debit card with VISA or MASTERCARD logo inscribed on TRUCK rentals. Debit cards are not accepted for CAR rentals.

Debit Cards MUST be in the renter’s name.

A minimum of $300 is required for a car rental along with two (2) Proof of Current Residency documents with information that matches their drivers license.

Examples of proof of residency:

  • CURRENT UTILITY BILL (WATER, ELECTRIC)
  • CURRENT CELLULAR TELEPHONE BILL
  • CURRENT HOME TELEPHONE BILL
  • CURRENT BANK STATEMENT
  • CURRENT CREDIT CARD STATEMENT
  • CURRENT AUTO/HOME INSURANCE INVOICE

This “hold” amount will be released within 3-5 business days, depending on your financial institution. You may check with your CC institution regarding how long it will take to release the “hold” on your funds.

When renting, ALL CUSTOMERS are informed of the following: “Your credit card/debit card is being authorized for $XX. Available funds on your credit card or bank account will be reduced by this amount. Actual charges to your credit card/debit card will be determined when you return the vehicle.

No, Doherty’s Truck & Auto Rental does not sell any type of liability insurance. Renter’s are responsible for all Third Party liability insurance claims. In the event a renter does not have insurance, or coverage is denied a secondary liability insurance policy is always included any rental. This policy covers up to the California minimum liability insurance requirements. This policy will not come into effect unless a claim is denied by the primary insurer.

For truck rentals, credit cards typically WILL NOT cover a renter for any damages on a truck rental. This is because of the trucks weight and size restrictions. A customer should check with their individual credit card company prior to renting.

YES, you are responsible for ALL damage including vandalism regardless of fault if you decline coverage.

Doherty’s Truck & Auto Rental is able to pick up customers from the El Cerrito Del Norte BART Station. We do not pick up customers from other locations.
